Materialism (Urban Dictionary): Devotion to material wealth (tangible objects) it is also a philosophy that states that all things will eventually be explained by physical properties. Most Westerners are materialists. Which means they are bastards who crave material wealth and will go to no end to get more. See Capitalism Materialism will be the downfall of society.
I do not doubt that definition, however Urban dictionary is not something you should look at for a report project or life definitions…(; Anyways… Why do we let materialism control, how we look at others and “categorize ourselves”. Does having a Céline bag make you feel like $2k? Or what about $250 Burberry rain boots? To what extent does price justify quality? Do $250 rain boots keep out water better than $50 target rain boots? My opinion, no! They all are literally the same, just a different type of pattern or colors. So I ask again, what is the need to buy name brand items when you are going to be forking over an arm and a leg for something that shouldn’t even cost half as much? Does it make you a better person? Does it make you have class? Does it make you look better? I’d say for some people, yes, they get their value from tangible objects. I am a firm believer in sale items, so if it is name brand and it’s a bargain, you bet your bottom dollar ill buy it. You ask why? Well quality, quality quality quality. It is true, the higher the price the better quality it will be. However spending an arm and a leg for something you can get that is the exact same, for half the price. Why not buy the less expensive one? Because it does not say Burberry, Kate Spade, Tory Burch or Michael Kors. Smart shopping and knowing a value of a dollar is where that comes in handy. Thus next time you’re at a designer store, think about why you’re buying that piece of clothing, handbag, accessories, etc. when you know Target or Nordstrom for that matter has that same piece but just different logo? Your pocketbook will thank you (:
P.S you could also buy more of what you wanted instead of that one insanely overpriced item, with that specific “cool” logo.
